Some Bristolian creative agencies are teaming up to produce and project moving images on the council house building during the week before christmas.

The Lightup Bristol project started last year, with some still images projections designed by Aardman Animations, Play Nicely, Watershed, and the organisers were interested in having me on board after seeing my mapping technique on Youtube (mapping on my neighbours house).

So we are in charge of the technical management, sourcing the playback hardware / software and I’ll also produce an Audio Visual piece involving multiprojection mapping.Tech specs:
Here are a few few technical details, the biggest mapping I’ve ever done so far.
- 6 * 20 000 lumens projectors, to project on the 160m x 10m facade.
- We’ll use high res visuals: 1024×768 on each projector, so the output image is 6144×768.
- To stream such High res format, we’ll have 2 “killer” media servers, to run very large video files.
- We’ll use the VJ software Arkaos 3.6 to control the video, with multi output and Midi support, we’ll be able to synchronize the visuals together and stream Gigabytes of video very smoothly.
- VVVV will be used to sequence and root midi MIDI signals between computers.

If you are local, and interested to see how the mapping works, you’re more than welcome on College green this Sunday from 6pm.
The projections will run everynight, from Monday 17th to Friday 21st, 6.30pm til 10.  I will do the live A/V performance at 9.45 every evening, so don’t hesitate to come along.

Je suis à la bourre ;) Il s’est passé tellement de choses terribles depuis 10 jours (picnic – cuisine – Rock n’ Solex…)  que je n’ai même pas trouvé le temps de faire un post. Du coup je vais faire court.. 

Le premier truc donc, c’est un projet qui s’est improvisé sur deux jours: on a commencé à faire des projections sur la facade du Timbuk2 pour promouvoir notre soirée (CUISINE) et les passants ont plutôt aimé, mais ils voulaient du son aussi. Du coup on a dégoté un générateur, emprunté le Van du club (merci Saïd !) un soundsystem et des platines (merci Angel) et des tables ikéa ;)   et on s’est fait un flyer improvisé, une lineup et un itinéraire que l’on a diffusés sur des forums. Ca a fait un mini buzz (avec même des flyers fakes) et pas mal de monde ont voulu nous rejoindre… Une mini Cuisine en extérieur, ca donne un Picnic.. non ?
Samedi soir, on commence par s’installer… devant la mairie ! Du coup c’est tellement “gros” que personne ne nous dit rien, les flics passent devant nous sans trop prêter attention. Qu’est ce que j’aime l’angleterre !
Quelques photos (merci clu) 1 – 2 – 3 et même une vidéo qui donne une idée de l’ambiance (pas de montage, il faut que je trouve le temps..).

Deuxième étape, on se pose sur le waterfront, juste en face de tous les club / bars bien “commerciaux” et la aussi 2 projecteurs, et du son à burne. La encore, pas de soucis avec la police (notez le strombo sur leur uniforme ;) ) mais on a réveillé une demoiselle qui dormais dans la péniche juste sous les enceintes.. donc Little Youth a du écourter un peu son mix… Encore une petite video.

Deuxieme jour, on s’est posé en face d’une grosse salle de concert, et ca été terrible (bon son, bcp de gens à passer) mais du coup les videurs ont appelé la police, mais ils ont été super classes et ont juste demandé de couper (après 40 min quand même…). Je bosse le montage et je post ça, ca vaut le détour !

Au final, pas énormément de monde, mais une expérience terrible, on a décidé de remettre ca régulièrement. Prochaine en Juin et sans doute dans un park dès l’après midi !
